The Bella Maya Resort is located on the Placencia Peninsula, a beautiful, 18 mile long isthmus in southern Belize.
What makes the Placencia area unique is the different views that peninsula offers; on one side the shimmering ocean of the Caribbean Sea, on the other the tranquil lagoon with the sun setting over the Mayan mountains in the distance.
The Placencia peninsula also benefits from the best beaches in Belize, protected by the western world’s largest barrier reef. On the lagoon side there is an abundance of wildlife, and the chance to spot the endangered manatee.
Placencia has its own small airport, and is located 100 miles to the south of the main international airport in Belize City. The Resort is 8 miles north of the airport, and just to the north of the village of Maya Beach.
Bella Maya offers complementary transfers to and from Placencia Airport.
How to get to Belize
Belize City International Airport is just a short non-stop flight away from many North American cities.
American Airlines fly up to twice a day from Miami as well as regular flights from Dallas. Continental fly up to twice a day from Houston. TACA also fly daily from Houston. Delta fly daily in season from Atlanta, as do US Air from Charlotte.
Continental also offer a weekly flight from New York, and Signature vacations currently offer a weekly flight from Toronto. There are also daily flights from Belize to other countries in Central America.

Direct flights to and from the UK & Europe are expected to start during 2009, once the extension to the existing runway at Belize International is complete.
Once in Belize, we recommend taking the 30 minute flight to Placencia. Tropic Air and Maya Island Air have multiple daily flights with the cost around US$160 for a return trip.
Bella Maya is just a 15 minute drive north from Placencia Airport and you can travel to the resort via the complementary 24 hour Bella Maya transfer service.
If you would prefer to hire a vehicle from Belize City, you can take the Western Highway towards Belmopan and then turn off left onto the scenic Hummingbird Highway. This route takes you through the lower regions of the Maya Mountains towards Dangriga. Turn off right onto the Southern Highway and look for signs to Placencia. You will see the entrance to the resort from the road. The journey from Belize City to Bella Maya will take approximately 3 hours, as not all of the roads are fully paved. |
